Pennsylvania is a state in the Northeast, the latitudes of the Lakes, Appalachian, and Middle Atlantic regions of the United States. The Commonwealth bordersDelaware to the southeast, Maryland to the south, West Virginia to the southwest, Ohio to the west, Lake Erie and Canada the Ontario province to the northwest, New York to the north, and New Jersey to the east, in when the Appalachian mountain range runs through its middle.
Pennsylvania is officially referred to as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is the second state to join the Union and is proud to be one of the nation's original founding nations. It is also known as 'Bang Keystone'.

Pennsylvania is the ninth most densely populated of the 50 states. Pennsylvania's two most populous cities are Philadelphia (1,580,863) and Pittsburgh (302.407). The state capital and its 13th largest city is Harrisburg. Pennsylvania has 140 miles (225 km) of waterfronts along Lake Erie and the Delaware River. The state is one of the 13 originally established states of the United States

History

Pennsylvania Before the Europeans arrived in this area, several American Indian tribes, such as Delaware, Boss, Iroquois, Erie and Shawnee, lived in the area. In the 1600s, the area was disputed between three great powers - the Netherlands, Sweden and Great Britain - who all claimed the land. It was in 1664 when the British took over, and an official land grant was awarded in 1681. The state became the seat of the federal government from 1776 - 1800, where the Declaration of Independence of the United States. The United States was signed in 1776 and the United States Constitution was promulgated. in 1787. The area became a state on December 12, 1787. The Gettysburg Civil War took place in Pennsylvania in July 1863, between Confederate forces and the Union.

Pennsylvania has some of the most important monuments of the history of the US revolution. Among these is the famous Philadelphia Freedom Bell, an independent symbol of the nation. The site of the Gettysburg Battlefield now houses one of the largest collections of outdoor sculptures in the world. The state's largest city, Philadelphia, has more outdoor sculptures and murals than any other US city. The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Rodin Museum, the Houdini Museum in Scranton and the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, are among the most prominent museums in the state. The Splash Lagoon in Erie, and Hershey's Chocolate World in Hershey, are major family attractions.
